Season and climate

The climate in the Analamanga region has two distinct seasons: a hot and humid period spaning from October to April, and a dry and cold season from May to September.

Airport protocol

As of August 2022, all health restrictions for entry into Madagascar have been lifted, leaving only the standard entry formalities to be observed.

Visa

Important: It is imperative and mandatory that your passport remains valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the end of your stay in Madagascar.

For stays lasting less than two months, securing an entry and stay visa is mandatory. Obtaining a tourist visa is a straightforward process and can be done online or directly at the airport upon your arrival.

Online application:
You can submit your request on the official E-visa website (https://evisamada-mg.com/en/home). There, you will obtain your landing authorization, which should be presented at the Madagascar airport for immediate visa payment. Subsequently, the Border Police will issue your secure vignette.

Upon arrival:
Upon disembarking, proceed through the "Foreign Passport, Non-Resident" lane. Ensure you have a valid passport, electronic ticket, proof of a return or onward flight ticket (with presentation of the ticket and visa of the next country), and details of your accommodation. You will pay the visa fee at the airport counter. Once you have obtained the landing authorization, you will proceed to the Border Police counter, which will issue your secure vignette.

The visa fee depends on the duration of your stay: 0 to 15 days: free (+10 € fees), 16 to 30 days: 35 €; 31 to 60 days: 40 €.

Since the information can change, it is strongly recommended to check with the official government sources or the Malagasy embassy or consulate in your country for the most up-to-date and accurate information on visa requirements and process.

An official invitation letter will be sent by the secretariat upon request. To initiate the request for an official invitation letter, participants are required to complete the registration process beforehand.

Currency and credit cards

The official currency is the Ariary (abbreviated as Ar or MGA), and currency exchange services are available at banks or the airport exchange office.

Major establishments such as large hotels, supermarkets, and petrol stations accept card payments (VISA or Mastercard). Nevertheless, it's worth noting that cash remains the predominant method of payment.
